Confiteor
The Confiteor, meaning I Confess, is a prayer of humble acknowledgment of sin prayed near the beginning of the liturgy. The believer confesses fault before God and the whole communion of saints, asking their prayers. It prepares the heart to worship with honesty, trusting in God's mercy rather than one's own merit.
- Also known as: I Confess
- Role: Penitential prayer of the liturgy
