The Better Part

Tuesday of the Twenty-Seventh Week in Ordinary Time. The evangelist Luke gives us the beloved story of Martha and Mary of Bethany. Martha is busy with the many tasks of hospitality and service; Mary sits at Jesus's feet listening to his word. Mary has chosen the better part, and it shall not be taken from her" (Luke 10:41-42). The repetition of Martha's name reveals affection, not rebuke.
