Matthias
Matthias was chosen to take the place left empty among the Twelve after the fall of Judas Iscariot. He had been a follower of Jesus from the baptism of John through the Ascension, qualifying him as a witness to the resurrection. The remaining apostles prayed and cast lots, and the choice fell to him.
