I Saw Satan Fall Like Lightning

Where We Are

Saturday of the Twenty-Sixth Week in Ordinary Time. The seventy-two return with joy: even the demons are subject to them! Jesus shares their joy but redirects it toward a deeper truth: do not rejoice because the spirits submit, but because your names are written in heaven. Your identity rests not in what you accomplish but in whose you are. Then he offers a prayer of thanksgiving that echoes the Beatitudes, praising the Father for revealing mysteries to the little ones. Job concludes with God's answer from the whirlwind and the restoration that follows.

Yet truly, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you; but rejoice that your names have been written in heaven" (Luke 10:17-20). Then he prays: "I confess to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the prudent, and have revealed them to little ones."
