Damascus

Damascus is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, an ancient center of Syria mentioned as far back as the days of Abraham. It is best remembered as the destination Saul was traveling toward to arrest followers of the Way when the risen Lord met him in a blinding light. His conversion on that road turned a persecutor into the Apostle Paul, and he later escaped the city lowered in a basket through the wall.
